Well, after doing a lot of research and checking out the reviews below and somewhere else, I chose to purchase Garmin Topo U.S. 24K West - California and Nevada - Micro SD/SD. Though I 'd have liked a much better guarantee, I chose the attributes were appealing enough to try it. It is a lot of money to toss away if it fails just after the warranty. I am totally in love with this item. It is high quality product, smart functions. I simply got it today, and I will upgrade my testimonial later if required.

Most Underlined Buyer Review : Somewhat disappointing
I own a Garmin Colorado was excited to get this map because of its promise of high resolution graphics and features that included routable trails. I was aware that because it was on a sd card, it could not be viewed on a computer -- which limits is functionality in planning hikes. But after taking it out on a hike today, I am disappointed that in my area its coverage of trails and fireroads is virtually nonexistent. It routed fine on the streets, if you need it for that. But routable trails are not that great of a feature if the trail coverage is limited. The standard mapsource 2008 topo map contain much better coverage where I hike - and have the advantage of being able to be used on the computer as well.

For the first time Garmin is beginning to roll out 24K Topo maps on very convenient microSD cards. ( includes SD card adapter ) No computer needed, just put it in your unit and go. No fuss, no muss !
All I can say is it is about time !
They are starting with the western states and going east. If your state is not covered yet, please be patient. They are all coming.
This is the highest level of mapping detail available for your Garmin unit. They work best on the new Colorado and Oregon series units as you will see see 3-D views and color terrain shading on these units only. Very Nice !!
These are a must have for hikers, geocachers and any outdoor enthusiasts.

Don't use with a nuvi 205W
I don't know if it works better in a different model, but in my unit, the map resolution is so crude as to be nearly useless. There is little information presented that isn't in the base map, other than contour lines, but those are presented with such low horizontal resolution that I can't even recognize the hills around my home town. When I go hiking, I get a decent paper map and leave the GPS in the car.
